Central Baptist Church

Central Baptist Church has a rich history, an exciting and varied programme of ministry for today, and much to look forward to in future as Leicester changes and develops.

Central Baptist is the result of a fusion of several city Baptist Churches including Harvey Lane (1760), Belvoir Street (1845) Charles Street (1831), United Baptist (1940), and Victoria Road (1866). The fine Georgian building on Charles Street, in which the church meets, provides a modern suite of rooms and facilities. These ensure the needs of a busy church as well as the wider community are met.

Picture of the outside of Central Baptist church Central Baptist recognises the authority and power of God’s Word, the Bible. In its preaching, Bible study and small group work, it seeks to humbly and wisely engage with the Bible in order to grasp its relevance and apply it to our everyday lives. We believe that God has demonstrated his extravagant love for us by wearing human flesh and being born among us in his Son, Jesus Christ. The truth of his birth, death and resurrection calls for a response from all of us. It is possible to ignore the gift of forgiveness, salvation and the adventure of faith, therefore, so much of what we are and do as a church, is focused on helping people not miss out on such a great and wonderful salvation.

Preparing for Baptism We often fail, but we do endeavour to craft challenging Services that are lively and draw on the best of contemporary and traditional Christian music. It is a church that is friendly and relatively easy to get involved in. The congregation is diverse and eclectic, and made up from representatives of all four continents. What a privilege to know the oneness we have in Christ.

In all we do, we seek to demonstrate God’s great love for each one of us. A vital aspect of our ministry is our community work. The Centre Project provides wonderful home cooked food, friendship, support, counseling, education, games and a whole lot more for some of the most vulnerable members of our city. The church and centre run an extensive programme of activities, and we are always looking for ways to extend and diversify our programme.

Welcome picture Leicester continues to change, develop and regenerate. The new theatre is just a few minutes away from us. New apartments, offices, restaurants, hotels have arrived or are planned. It is an exciting time to serve the city, and we want to be part of it all. Under God, we have our hopes and dreams. Maybe He is calling you to be part of all He wants to achieve through this particular Christian community in the future that He only knows and holds.

I hope to meet you in person soon,

Christopher
