Pastoral Letters - May 2010
Dear Friends
Listening to the call
Do take a look at these verses from the Bible, they set the theme of this letter: Matthew 4 18-22, Mark 1 14-20, Luke 9 1-3 and John 1 40-50. These similar stories cover the story of Jesus's invitation to some of the disciples to join him. The invitation to the other disciples is not recorded, but they were clearly willing to give up their time to follow him. The dramatic calling of Paul on the Road to Damascus is not necessarily how we hear the call today, but the call is still as strong in modern times. Jesus is giving each of us the opportunity to follow him and to serve him in our own way using the talents and abilities we have, and perhaps to discover hidden strengths that we did not suspect we possessed.
The successful running of a vibrant modern church depends upon committed followers of Christ volunteering to use their talents to advance Christ's kingdom on earth. The AGM is coming soon and here is an opportunity to consider who we can call to be Deacons. Do think prayerfully if you know of a member of the church who could answer the call to help in this duty. The team of deacons needs to be supplemented. The work with the children is vital and help is needed, with the Sunday Club on Sunday mornings and with the ALF Club on Thursday afternoons, and perhaps this is a call you could answer. The Centre Project of course is always looking for people to volunteer some of their time to help with their various activities.
There are also many areas where extra practical help is needed, so do talk to our Church Secretary, or one of the Deacons, and find out how you can answer Christ's call to service.
Blessings to you all,
Roger Beeby,
Deacon
